What happens when six terrific friends and incredible Broadway musicians leave the pit to create their own original music?
One of your most enjoyable listening experiences of the year, that's what! Led by composer, violinist and pianist Cenovia Cummins - this is an evening not to be missed!
"In December of 2016, with a show closing and some time on my hands, I came up with the idea of playing original music with a group of friends in a casual and fun setting. We had all played together in many of Broadway’s pit orchestras, on stage at Carnegie Hall and the like. The concept sprang from a desire to explore and play music in styles that we don’t necessarily do all the time, and not necessarily on our prime instruments. For me, as a violinist, that meant playing the piano and writing music, and for my multi-talented friends, a chance to stretch and play in a free jazz style rather than our traditional classical genre. We would meet for rehearsals in Leonia, NJ just over the GW bridge. What transpired was a lot of camaraderie, laughter and wonderful music-making, as well as a lot of homemade meals together. We had just over a couple of weeks to get it all together. It was exhausting and exhilarating.
CC and friends made it’s official debut at Maureen's Jazz Cellar in Nyack, NY on January 30th of 2017 to a sold out and very smiley crowd. We look forward to sharing the joy of more music-making in the future." - Cenovia Cummins
